Digital Air Masses and Fronts Lesson

This colorful, engaging activity is a lesson and  fun digital interactive review activity all rolled into one resource!

First, using colorful slides students will learn how each front is created. Then, students will reinforce their knowledge on how warm and cold air masses interact with each other to create clouds and weather. Students will understand that cold air masses push warm air masses upward and create a different clouds depending upon the front.

Students Will Learn:

Students will learn about how warm and cold air masses create the four main types of fronts:

  • warm front
  • cold front
  • stationary front
  • occluded front

Then . . . the fun part! Time to make the fronts!  Unleash your inner digital artist! 

This Air Masses and Fronts Lesson is downloadable instantly as a Google Slide document. It is extremely easy to save as a PowerPoint in just a few clicks. This makes it simple to use with any Learning Management System!

  • Use this as a lesson opener to introduce what air masses are and how they interact. Have students pair up and read the slides together.
  • Display this on your SmartBoard while your students follow along on their devices. Complete the activity together.
  • My students use this activity as a review after a more thorough lesson on air masses and weather fronts.  This is the lesson I use in my class prior to this one.
  • Save this resource and use is as a lesson for a substitute. Make your life easier and save time on sub plans!
  • Students can complete the last slides on their own and take a screenshot of them. They can turn the screenshots in to you through your Learning Management System for whatever grade you choose for them.
  • OR, same as above, but instead of a grade, students take a selected screenshot and share it in a saved class chat for the rest of the class to see how they organized their clipart. Students can self-grade each other!
