Evelyn Boyd Granville is an important figure in women’s history thanks to her amazing contributions to mathematics and computer science. She was one of the first African-American women to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics. She worked as a mathematician and computer programmer, using her skills to solve complex problems.
Granville’s work was instrumental in the development of computer software for NASA’s Project Mercury. This project sent the first American astronauts into space. She also played a crucial role in calculating and analyzing the trajectories of space capsules. This ensured the success and safety of the missions.
