What is the Theme for Women's History Month 2024?

According to nationalwomen’shistoryallience.org, 2024’s theme: “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” The theme recognizes women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions.

How Do I Use This Women's History Month Bulletin Board?

There are several ways but always feel free to do it your own way. Here are some suggestions:

  • For teachers short on class time – Post all 10 women on the bulletin board at once. Students perform a “gallery walk”, spending time observing and reading. When finished, have a discussion about what your students learned.
  • Have time to spend for a portion of class? Post one woman on the board each day. Before posting, read about the person’s life and why she is part of Women’s History. 
  • How about the in-between teacher?  Post two women at a time on the board, and discuss each woman and their accomplishments.

What Women are Featured in this Women's History Month Bulletin Board?

  • Dr.Hayat Sindi  overcame many obstacles to pursue an education. She worked her way to a degree in biotechnology and developed an organization called Diagnostics For All. She has saved thousand of lives by creating affordable testing anyone can use.
  • Diana Trujillo is an immigrant from Columbia who came to America with $300 and zero knowledge of English. She worked her way through college and eventually began working for NASA. She is responsible for machines that are currently on Mars today!
  • Chien Shiung Wu is a physicist that worked on the Manhattan Project. This was instrumental to ending World War II. She received many awards for her work in physics biology and medicine
  • Betty Holberton was hired during World War II to be a “human computer”. She helped program the first computer known to humankind called ENIC.
  • Annie Easley was known as a human computer. She wrote the computer program that controlled the fuel mixture for the Centaur rocket. Her work was so important that without her this rocket may never have left the ground.
  • Shirley Ann Jackson worked to advance telecommunications. She conducted many experiments and helped to invent many modern telephone advancements.
  • Vera Rubin grew up in an era that did not welcome women into astronomy. She still persisted and was the first woman ever to use a famous telescope at the Palomar Observatory, leading to an exciting discovery!
  • Evelyn Boyd Granville is a mathematician and one of the first African-American women to receive a doctoral degree in mathematics from Yale University. She worked to design computer software that helped analyze satellite orbits for missions.
  • Sally Ride will go down in history as the first American woman ever to travel into space. She spent six days in space conducting experiments and becoming the first woman to operate the shuttle’s robotic arm.
  • Sau Lan Wu learned from a young age that education was a way out of poverty. She attended Vassar University, then went on to Harvard and eventually MIT where she helped confirm the existence of three fundamental particles.

Some Reasons This Women's History Month Bulletin Board is Perfect for Busy Teachers

  • The border is included. You can have a bulletin board with matching border all in one package. That’s right! This border is available to print and is included with the bulletin board. Black and white is used for ease of printing.  Want more color? Print on colored paper for that pop of color!
  • Take it further with a research paper. Your students will find one woman who they found interesting and conduct further research. They can make a PowerPoint, movie, website, or anything that suits them. The purpose is for your students to learn from this experience!
  • Make it interactive! Once all 10 women are posted on your bulletin board, have students find one woman that inspires them. Question them to find out why they are inspired by her. Students can write an inspirational message and then post it on the bulletin board. 
  • The bulletin board letters are included. Yep! If the lettering is too big for your board, print at a reduced size. Just play around with the sizing that will fit the board you are using. Print the included border and bulletin board letters on the same colored paper for a pop of color. Make your board unique!

How Do I Celebrate Women's History Month With My Virtual Students?

Since this product is downloadable it is a great way to celebrate Women’s History Month with your virtual students. Any of the women featured in this activity can be easily uploaded into the Learning Management System used by your school district such as Google Classroom. Simply assign one per day to study. You can also assign all ten women at once and have your students choose whom they would like to study. Then, assign the research sheet.
